Typical conservative government response. Spend 10 million on an audit about a problem they created instead of using that money to help provide the services required.
So, we can expect to see more businesses boarded up on Queen St if this becomes reaallity? It seems this Municipal government is incapable of finishing anything they start. (Except of course the unwanted, expensive downtown Plaza)
It is so obvious that these numbered companies are actually engaging in money laundering. RCMP should get their heads out of the sand and start investigating them.
What should be done is if they don't pay the vacant home tax, the property should be liquidated and sold to a reputable organization such as Habitat for Humanity and they in turn can rent or sale to the people that need housing. This would kill two birds with one stone. Use the derelict houses and provide relief for the housing crisis. But alas that is too simple of a concept for our local government to grasp.
There is no need for speed cameras as the City continues to neglect doing the necessary street maintenance, You can't even reach the speed limit on most streets in the P patch area. Put the money into the roads
It just baffles me how these people that design hospitals think. The main entrance at SAH is a huge waste of space. In that area alone, if there was two floors, there could of been 30 x four bed rooms which would total 120 extra beds. How many more patient rooms could there of been in other areas of the hospital whose only function is for aesthetics?
Not once in that article did Maione answer the question " Is parking still allowed? ". He stated that people won't be ticketed when parking in a construction area but failed to address what happens when you park at a location where a meter has been removed. Other than stressing the use of lot parking, he doesn't answer the question asked.
I don't see anywhere in the article that explains why 10,000 patients currently with primary care providers will lose them on May 31st. Did all the Doctors just decide to quit? Is GHC not paying them properly? What? Funding for Specialists has nothing to do with primary care, so why does she feel the need to highlight that issue? I would like to know how many primary care providers there are at GHC and what the doctor/patient ratio is and what has changed. In my opinion this article doesn't answer any of the questions that people are asking.
I don't believe GHC is being completely transparent about the reason why the current 10,000 patients, the previous 6,000 patients and the possible additional 6, 000 patients have been or are to be derostered. It can't only be to Physician retirement and/or excessive paper work. I have heard that some Physicians simply do not want to work with GHC and are pursuing alternate means of providing patient care. Maybe Sootoday should look a little deeper.
Would of been nice if Sootoday staff had mentioned the two SSM units in the article.49th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery and the 30th Service Battalion.
