This affair is so phoney, yes phoney not funny. Few months ago we heard that it was 1938, alluding that a certain Austrian caporal was south of the border. And what we good Canadians do? Disarm ourselves.Even if Canada had an army commensurate with our population, which by very far it does not have, winning a war against a determined America would be next to impossible. Smart thing would be to arm as many as possible to make a hostile occupation costly and hazardous. Are we doing it? No, to the contrary. Why? Because we don't believe it. It was a ploy to scare a gullible populace and whip up a fake national fervor. Oh, and how is that diversification of trade doing? Nada. Over 20 trips overseas and nothing to show exept the white flag.
I am sure this, showing up at 4 AM to have a chance, will bring my father, a refugee from the glorious Soviet Union, some (not so) sweet memories of bread lines. Ah, the benefits of socialism. Not sure he will be fond of it, he still doesn't have a family doctor after over a decade of paying a very hefty chunk of his income in taxes (in the SOO). It seems that the problem gets worst every time more money is injected in the system. Maybe it is grand time to slash; the managerial, sub-managerial, the plethora of administrative and supervisory positions and get some boots on the ground.
Selective enforcement, extremely low pay (often below minimum wage when all accounted) and other unsavory factors made that the safe and experienced drivers left the industry in droves. Still, instead of learning the industry doubled down on cheap, unqualified labour with blessings of various government bodies who at best pay some timid lip service to the public safety issue.
When you referred to your opponent to the Austrian painter (it's 1938, Mark Carney during the election campaign) don't expect much sympathy from the other side. And if we truly believed it we would be arming ourselves to the gills. (including privately (to make life of the invader/occupier difficult). But we are not doing anything of that except talk, or actually disarm that elbows up is pure phoney.
Jimssm, within few months of moving I had one also because I also looked for one, but only managed to be on the list was after a personal referral. My ol'man had a harder time but when I asked my doctor squeezed him in also. On occasion he'll do a check on my father, luckily father being healthy it's a rare occurrence, just imagine to book a tetanus booster (10 minutes procedure) to be few weeks. Assuming we are sitting on our behinds and waiting for the almoneer to give us charity is condescending.
The often ideologically motivated regulations made many companies just close doors and move to China. When living at my father's house I remembered all our appliances were made in Canada and not a few of his tools. When I went on my own I bought used, often made in Canada, but when replacement were needed in 2019 all are now made in China. These are just examples among many others.
The EU doesn't care much Canadian steel. They have all they need from China or Turkey. As for other products we spurned them when they needed them so they turned to the US, Qatar and other more businesses reliable countries.
Condolences to the family and friends. Never knew the doctor, however his fate does not come as a surprise anymore. I personally know of few folks who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly recently and dreadfully anticipate more to come. RIP.
I agree with you about the US. I have siblings living there and it in regards to medical issues it is not the nightmare, mind you got worst for many due to Obamacare, that the media would make you believe. The best is there is a choice, if you don't like this doctor you can go to another one quit easily.
If at least one could deduct the price of few liters of gas from the income. But the main issue if I understand is the timing 11 to 13 sidelining most of working folks
And Canada is one of the few countries in the world where the partnership between private and public is verboten. Sweden, Italy, Germany, Finland and you name it all have it.
The OTA couldn't care less about safety. All they care is their members, big carriers (and shippers), have plenty available of cheap labor to maximize profits and squeeze out smaller outfits.
Maybe, it all boils down to choice. The mandatory single payer arrangement simply eliminates the incentive to do better. On this note I have to command the SOO hospital staff for the prompt and thorough care they provided to my grandma when we showed up at the Emergency and the symptoms she described made the staff be concerned she could be having an imminent heart attack. They were amazing, quick and further tests were done promptly. Thankfully it was a "false alarm".
Who needs to learn how to drive? We got GPS, traction control, lane departure warning, antilock braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic transmission warning for this, warning for that...
