I just returned from Melbourne where the city has a large # of privately run student residence towers (https://www.unilodge.com.au/student-accommodation-melbourne/melbourne-city/rooms-apartments). None with a pool, but some with very nice outdoor spaces on rooftops. They are all very intelligently built and staffed during "waking hours". From all reports this type of residence worked well and while they weren't cheap to rent, they were very well set up. Canada needs more of them. That being said, I'd be thumbs down on a pool, way too many potential negatives to make it worthwhile in my opinion.
